For the first time in our country on December 3 it will be celebrated a new memorable date - "Day of the Unknown Soldier."

"In Russia, in areas where fighting took place during the Second World War, there are countless graves of Soviet soldiers with monuments to the Unknown Soldier. And these places are sacred to our people, " said in the explanatory notes to the Law which settled a new memorable date.

The reason of establishment the anniversary is the fact that this day on December 3, 1966, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the defeat of German troops near Moscow, the ashes of unknown soldiers was moved from a mass grave of Soviet soldiers, located at 41 km of the Leningrad highway, and solemnly buried near Kremlin in Alexandrovsky Garden.
