On January 21-22, 2019 the delegations from Nagasaki University and Fukushima Medical University consisting of Prof. Takamura, Ms. Matsunaga, Mr. Takahashi, Prof. Waguri, Prof. Yasumura, Elena Ryzhii arrived on a friendly visit to North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov.  Then on January 24, 2019 the joint group of master students arrived at the University to study on the course “Biostatistics” under the guidance of Prof. Plavinsky.

The representatives of North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov were Rector of the University Sergey A. Sayganov; Alexander V. Melzer, Vice-Rector for regional public health development and preventive medicine; Sergey A. Artushkin, Vice-Rector for study; Аlexey V. Silin, Vice-Rector for research and innovations; Tatiana A. Zhelninova, Head of international activities and projects management; Natalya V. Tcinzerling, Head of the department for international affairs.

The cooperation with the Universities of Japan is quite long and efficient, and each meeting gives an impulse for practical collaboration. This time, practical workshop "Health Protection of the population: Russian-Japanese initiative" was held after business meeting. During the workshop Prof. Takamura, Prof. Yasumura, and Prof. Melzer presented their reports: “The health effects of radiation - lessons from Nagasaki, Chernobyl and Fukushima”, “The review of health care organization in Fukushima - achievements and challenges”, “Current goals of public health to reduce the incidence rate of the population in the regions of the Russian Federation”, respectively.
