About North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov

North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov (NWSMU) was founded on October 12, 2011 as a result of the merger of the two oldest educational medical institutions in Russia - St. Petersburg Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education and St. Petersburg State Medical Academy named after I. I.I. Mechnikov.

The founder of the University is the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

The activity of the University is based on close cooperation and coordination of educational, clinical and research activities - this allows training competent specialists who have modern knowledge and are able to apply it in practice.

M.D. course in General Medicine (Spetsialitet) (partly in English)

"General Medicine" for English-speaking students:

The MD course includes 6 years of study and practical training, partly in English.

During the first 3 years of training considerable attention is paid to the study of the Russian language

The priority result of scientific research of the North-Western State Medical University is the creation of innovations, introduced into practical activities, demanded by the market of medical services and providing a qualitative increase in efficiency. Over the past 5 years, North-Western State Medical University has become a leader in the number of patents for inventions and utility models among medical universities and has more than 120 innovative developments that are being implemented in clinical, diagnostic, preventive and organizational work of medical institutions.

Scientific developments at the North-Western State Medical University are carried out jointly with more than 50 leading universities and research institutes of St. Petersburg, Russia and foreign countries, with 60 medical institutions, 25 pharmaceutical companies.

The results of scientific research of employees of the University named after I.I. Mechnikov are published in their own journals published at the University: " Emergency Medical Aid" (State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles - SCADT), "Russian family doctor", "Vestnik NWGMU" (SCADT), "Problems of medical mycology" (SCADT), "Preventive and clinical medicine" (SCADT).

In most ratings the main indicators of the efficiency and quality of the university are the efficiency of its activities in such areas as education, science and international activities. But despite the apparent similarities, the ratings differ in methodology, number of evaluated indicators, "weight" of each of the evaluated coefficients, etc.
