Winter School on Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition marked the beginning of the spring semester at North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov

From 7 to 10 February 2022, North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov hosted English Winter School on Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition for international students. That was the second school on gastroenterology organized by the University remotely. Twenty-six undergraduate students from Zhejiang Chinese Medical University have expressed a keen interest in the subject matter of the school and joined the course.

Prominent professors and associate professors from NWSMU became the School speakers. Professor Igor G. Bakulin, MD, Dean of the Faculty of General Medicine, who gave a lecture on the fundamentals of hepatology, opened the lecture part of the School. The lecturers were also the following:

  • Sergey V. Tikhonov – MD, Gastroenterologist, Clinical Pharmacologist; Candidate of Medical Sciences; Assistant Professor of the Internal Diseases, Clinical Pharmacology and Nephrology Chair.
  • Elena A. Semenova – MD, Gastroenterologist, Candidate of Medical Sciences; Teaching Assistant of the Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases, Gastroenterology and Nutrition Chair n.a. S.M. Ryss.
  • Elena B. Avalueva – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases, Gastroenterology and Nutrition Chair n.a. S.M. Ryss

The School participants broadened their knowledge in the study of gastrointestinal diseases, the diagnosis and treatment of GERD, discussed various clinical cases, as well as the basics of a healthy diet.

The Winter School on Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition was coordinated by the NWSMU International Office. During the Day 1 of the School, the International Office team also organized a cultural program for international students that included St. Petersburg virtual tour, the University presentation, and a quiz on some facts about the geography, history and culture of Russia.
