Fascinating summer: students of I.I. Mechnikov’s NWSMU visit Chinese medical universities

Our top five students became the participants of 2024 CQMU Study and Culture Tour held by Chongqing Medical University from 14 to 27 July.  This year students and professors from 11 countries took part in the Tour.

 

On 15 July, the opening ceremony with top officials of the host university was held, followed by a visit to the University Affiliated Hospital, in particular to its rehabilitation, endoscopy and short-term surgical units.

During the first week, students attended classes in their chosen course packages: “Metabolomics”, “Introduction to Chinese Medicine” and “Dentistry”.

 

In the “Metabolomics” course package, students took internship in a research lab and performed a mass spectrometry study of samples, and afterwards shared their findings.

 

During “Introduction to Chinese Medicine” and “Dentistry” classes, students practised in the relevant clinical units, participated in discussions with senior students of Chongqing Medical University, shared their knowledge and experience with other participants, learnt about the peculiarities of the Chinese healthcare system.

 

 

The host university also arranged a rich cultural programme, which included a Chinese culture immersion, introduction to customs and traditions, art and language. Students had an opportunity to visit famous places of the big city, admire evening views and appreciate the local flavours.

 

On 26 July, the closing ceremony of the Tour was held, where participants had a chance to share their impressions. Tian Jie, Vice-President of the University, also attended the ceremony and awarded the students with certificates of completion. 

 

Students of I.I. Mechnikov’s NWSMU gained an unforgettable and invaluable experience, broadened their horizons, demonstrated knowledge and learnt about the peculiarities of medicine and health care systems of different countries.
