Educational and training work

Students of the I course of all faculties are trained at the Chair: preventive medicine, general medicine, foreign students (in Russian, in English and preparatory division), pre-university preparation (medical and biological classes and small medical faculty). It is carried also out professional development of teachers from medical higher education institutions and medical schools of Russia.

The discipline taught at the Chair - "Biology with ecology" includes the following sections: in the first semester - "Cytobiology" and "Genetics"; in the second - "Medical parasitology", "Development biology. Evolution. Ecology. Biosphere". At the end of each section the total examinations take place which purpose is a generalization and systematization of the studied material.

Process of training is accompanied by the control of students’ knowledge, and also an overtaking basic practical skills: each lesson begins with a test to define the initial level of knowledge, and comes to an end with a test to define the final level. After that the analysis of the most difficult material for understanding is made with oral elements which development of practical skills follows: microscopy, analysis of electron diffraction patterns, solution of situational tasks, analysis of some genetic diseases with the analysis of family trees, drawing up the prognosis of disease and genetic consultation, analysis of some parasitic diseases.

For activation of informative activity of students and disclosure of their creative opportunities at the Chair it is developed a rating system which allows to individualize success of each student.

Additional information

For activation of informative activity of students and disclosure of their creative opportunities the Chair annually carries out:

Academic competition

The academic competition takes place 2 times a year at the end of each semester. The announcement of the beginning of the academic competition is usually hung out in advance on the bulletin board. All students recommended by the teacher can participate in the academic competition. Winners (I, II, the III prizes) are exempted from examination with the mark "excellent" if they have a positive rating. Students taken the IV-VII places or who is raising their rating, either are allowed the early examination, or are exempted from one theoretical examination question at their choice.

Competition on practical skills

In this competition which is carried out also every semester, where the possession of practical skills by students for the current semester is estimated.

Winners with good marks received after the examinations, are exempted from the examination - 1 place with the mark "excellent", 2 and 3 places with the mark "good", 4-7 places - are exempted from a practical question at the examination with the mark "excellent", they raise their rating or they are allowed to early test if they have no academic debt.

The competitions "Brain Storm" (or we discuss methodical materials of the Chair)

Teachers responsible for certain subjects consider constructive proposals concerning the presentation and material drawing up; the additions accepted for modification of appropriate sections; typographical errors, inaccuracies, ambiguity of treatment, etc. In case of repeated same offers and remarks the offer and the remarks presented by the first student could be taken into considered. Winners of the competition "Brain Storm" (1-3 places), who had the greatest number of accepted offers and remarks, are encouraged individually by the Head of the Chair.

Competition of exercise books

After termination of the course students with the recommendation of the teacher of educational group, can present the filled exercise books to the competition. Each lesson should to be signed by the teacher (additions in leaves aren't allowed). Tasks on subjects are carried out: "Variability", "Anthropogenesis" and "Biosphere". 4 sections of the exercise book are considered: "Cytobiology", "Genetics", "Medical parasitology", "Development biology. Evolution". The assessment according to all sections is carried out by the following criteria, each is estimated according to the five-point system: - drawings in the exercise book like the image in a microscope (without artifacts); - all tasks should be carried out accurately and clear; - demanded designations (listed near the place of drawing) are specified on the drawing with the same numeration; - at the solution of situational tasks the detailed answers to all items of tasks should be given; - there are also decorating elements. The maximum number points - 100. Winners of the competition 1-3 places are awarded the diplomas, 1-7 places are exempted from a practical question at the examination with the mark "excellent", and they raise their rating or they are allowed to early testing in the absence of the academic debt.

Competition of lectures summaries

After termination of the lecture course students can submit summaries of lectures to the competition. The recommendation of the teacher of educational group or the lecturer is necessary for participation in the competition. Summaries of lectures are estimated by the following criteria: - summaries of all lectures are submitted; - in the summaries all provisions of lecture are reflected; - skills of transfer of oral speech in written form and compressions of the text are evident; - there are elements of expeditious information processing (sequence of the lecture text with schemes, tables, drawings, etc.); - notes should be made accurately and clear. Winners of the competition 1-3 places are awarded the diplomas, 1-7 places are exempted from a practical question at the examination with the mark "excellent", and they raise their rating or they are allowed to early testing in the absence of the academic debt.
