Students from Belarus finished their practical training in hygiene and epidemiology at NWSMU

Practical training course in hygiene and epidemiology for ten students from the Faculty of Preventive Medicine of the Belarusian State Medical University in Minsk, Belarus, has been successfully completed at North-Western State Medical University named after I.I. Mechnikov.

Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU) is a leading institution of higher medical education in the Republic of Belarus with well-deserved international reputation and recognition. Bilateral cooperation between NWSMU and BSMU began back in 2016 and has proved to be very successful. Almost every year Belarusian medical students come for internships in St. Petersburg.

During these 2 weeks, from 31 July to 13 August, students from BSMU visited the NWSMU Certification and Training Simulation Centre and were introduced to the procedure of certification, including for epidemiologists. The students also visited the Department of Public Health and Healthcare Management, the Department of Occupational Medicine and the Department of Epidemiology, Parasitology and Disinfectology of our University.

The Belarusian students also visited the Department of Public Health and Health Economics, the Department of Community Hygiene, the Research Institute of Radiation Hygiene named after Prof. P. V. Ramzaev, the Local department of the Rospotrebnadzor for Kirovsky district of the Leningrad region.

Besides training, the students had a great opportunity to get acquainted with St. Petersburg: on the first day of their arrival, they were invited to the city tour. In addition, they visited the Proryv [Breakthrough] Panorama Museum in Kirovsk and the Yusupov Palace.

On August 12 the Rector of NWSMU Prof. Sergey A. Sayganov met with the students and awarded them Certificates on completion of practical training. The BSMU students warmly thanked the University administration and the International Office for the warm welcome. We hope that the knowledge and skills gained during this internship will benefit Belarusian students in their future careers.
